Question
Antique Rogers and Smith and Co. 1862 - 1868 Loving Cup Shaped "Vase?"

MrsGottrocks (C)
I have inherited an approximately 8" tall loving cup shape (two handles with flares) object I assume is a vase. It is marked Rogers and Smith and Co. No. 1380 New Haven CT. I know it was made somewhere between 1862 and 1868 as that is the only time the company was located in New Haven. It does not appear to have ever had a lid. It is in perfect condition, except that it has tarnished to a beautiful and uniform greyish color, and I am unwilling to polish it until I know more about value. It has a wide bottom foot/base, a rounded bottom which narrows and then flares wider at the top. Two curved curlyque handles.

Does anyone have an idea of what it is and what it might be worth?

I assume it is silverplated. Does anyone know if that might be the case?

Does anyone know if polishing it would reduce the value?

You will get better results and avoid the possibly of damaging it by attempting a do-it-yourself polish. A deep tarnish restoration is different than a light maintainence polish. They could also restore the plating if needed. They might be able to tell you something about it as well.
